England to host World Bowls Championship for the first time in over 20 years
27 nations, 12 days of international competition and 14 titles await in Royal Leamington Spa in July 2027
The biggest event in world bowls is coming to England.
Bowls England has been confirmed as host of the 2027 World Bowls Championship, bringing the sport’s premier international tournament to Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa, from 20 July-1 August 2027. It marks the first time the modern World Championships, featuring men’s, women’s and para competitions together, will be staged in England, and the first visit to the Northern Hemisphere since 2004.
More than 27 nations are expected to compete across 14 world title events, transforming one of the sport’s most celebrated venues into the global home of bowls for almost two weeks. England, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Wales, Malaysia, Ireland and many more will all be chasing world titles on the same greens that hosted the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Victoria Park already welcomes thousands of players and supporters each year for the Bowls England National Finals, but the World Championships promise something on an altogether different scale, promising international stars, national rivalries and packed stands.
Following the opening ceremony on Tuesday 20 July, the World Bowls Championship gets underway with the Women’s Pairs, Men’s Fours and the opening para events, before the Women’s Triples and Men’s Singles join the action. Knockout bowls arrive on Friday 23 July, leading into a finals-packed opening weekend that crowns the Women’s Pairs, Men’s Fours, Men’s Singles, Women’s Triples and three para world champions.
After a rest day, week two shifts focus to the Women’s Fours, Men’s Pairs, Women’s Singles and Men’s Triples, alongside more para competition. As the knockout rounds gather pace, another finals weekend decides the remaining world titles, culminating on Sunday 1 August with five championship matches, including the Women’s Singles and Men’s Triples finals.
With more than 300,000 people playing bowls across England, organisers hope the championship will build on the momentum created by Birmingham 2022 while introducing even more fans to a sport that continues to evolve on the international stage.
