Dolly Parton performs ‘Jolene’ with all-star band at Rock Hall ceremony

P!NK, Annie Lennox and Sheryl Crow were just a few of the guests joining the country star for her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction

To celebrate her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday night (5 November), Dolly Parton performed her classic hit ‘Jolene’ with a host of guests. P!NK, who inducted the country superstar, joined Pat Benatar (also inducted this weekend), Sheryl Crow and the likes of Brandi Carlile, Annie Lennox, Duran Duran and Judas Priest‘s Rob Halford. Watch the performance below.

Zac Brown Band played as backing for all of Parton’s performances that evening, as she sung ‘9 to 5’, ‘Coat of Many Colours’ and new song ‘Rockin’, which she wrote especially for the evening.

Parton had originally tried to “respectfully bow out” of the induction, saying on an Instagram post: “Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want votes to be split because of me.” However in April the singer accepted her nomination, telling NPR Morning Edition‘s James Patterson she would “accept gracefully.”

“It was always my belief that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was for the people in rock music,” she told Patterson, “and I have found out lately that it’s not necessarily that. But if they can’t go there to be recognised, where do they go? So I just felt like I would be taking away from someone that maybe deserved it, certainly more than me, because I never considered myself a rock artist. But obviously, there’s more to it than that.”

Eminem, Duran Duran, Carly Simon, Lionel Ritchie and Eurythmics were also inducted into this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
