Concert for Ukraine raises more than £12m with help from stars
Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello and Snow Patrol were among those that performed in order to raise funds for DEC’s humanitarian appeal
Tuesday 29 March saw stars gather for a two-hour concert at Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena, broadcast live on ITV. The event aimed to raise money for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s humanitarian appeal, with an impressive roster of performers taking to the stage to encourage donations.
Ed Sheeran and Camila Cabello had one of the most talked about performances of the night, debuting their new single ‘Bam Bam’. Also performing were Snow Patrol, Emile Sandé, Anne-Marie, Paloma Faith and Gregory Porter, among other high-profile acts. There was even a special message from Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell urging viewers to donate. Manic Street Preachers followed their appeal with their track ‘If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next’, a song originally inspired by the Spanish Civil War and the Welsh volunteers who fought for the Spanish republic.
The broadcast also featured Robert Rinder in conversation with aid workers and refugees in Ukraine and Trevor McDonald issuing a special thank you to members of the press risking everything to cover the conflict. The star-studded night raised over £12.2 million in total.
