Charli XCX & Jack Antonoff to write music for new A24 film Mother Mary

David Lowery's new "epic pop melodrama" stars Michaela Coel and Anne Hathaway

Hyperpop star Charli XCX and super producer Jack Antonoff are to write and produce music for Mother Mary, a new film announced by A24 to star Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel, as per a Deadline report.

The “epic pop melodrama” is written and directed by David Lowery (A Ghost Story, The Green Knight, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints), and centres around the relationship between a famous fashion designer (Coel) and a musician (Hathaway). Filming will begin in Germany later this year, with an official release date yet to be announced.

In addition to original music from Antonoff and Charli XCX, the film will feature a score from Daniel Hart, who has previously worked with Lowery on the likes of Pete The Dragon, A Ghost Story and The Green Knight.

In 2022 Charli XCX indirectly collaborated with A24 when her hit ‘Hot Girl’ was used in the comedy-horror Bodies Bodies Bodies. Antonoff recently won Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical at the 2023 Grammy Awards.

Coel is one of the biggest British breakout star in recent years after the award-winning success of her 2020 series I May Destroy You. Later this year she also stars in Mr. and Mrs. Smith alongside Donald Glover.

Anne Hathaway recently starred in Elieen, a psychological thriller which premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January to strong reviews.
