Adele one step closer to EGOT status after Emmy win

Adele nabbed herself a Creative Emmy Award for her CBS special

Adele has won her first ever Emmy this week at the Creative Emmy Awards ahead of the main Primetime Emmys due to take place next week.

The singer took home the award for Best Outstanding Variety Special (pre-recorded) at the awards ceremony over the weekend for her One Night Only special with CBS.

Sharing her delight on social media after her win, Adele said: “Bloody hell I’m pleased at punch!”

“Thank you Ben for dropping this round to me this afternoon,” she added. “Trust me to officially have an EGO.

“Thank you so much Television Academy, I’m so so honoured to receive this.”

The “EGO” Adele was referring to was three out of the four awards needed to claim EGOT status.

As it stands, Adele had 15 Grammy wins, one Oscar and now an Emmy Award to her name. That means, the singer only needs to win a Tony Award to also secure the EGOT (which stands for Emmy Grammy Oscar Tony).

Adele now joins a long list of stars who have three out of the four awards needed to join the likes of Whoopi Goldberg and John Legend as EGOT winners.

Other notable stars who need a Tony win to claim EGOT status are Kate Winslet, Julie Andrews, Martin Scorsese, and Cher.

While Lin-Manuel Miranda, Billy Porter, Bette Midler, and Hugh Jackman all need to win an Oscar to join the chosen few.

Oh, and can someone give Dame Maggie Smith a Grammy so she can be added to that list also?
