New Music: Glowie
Reykjavik raised Glowie mixes sultry pop with fiery lyrics.
Ticketmaster New Music is a carefully curated selection, showcasing artists we are expecting to make waves in the live music scene. Working closely with record labels, live event promoters and talent agents, our in-house experts handpick the most exciting emerging music.
The greatest thing about the democratization of music distribution is that now it truly doesn’t matter where an artist is from. If they make good tunes, someone somewhere, will find one on a playlist and share it with their friends who will then share it with the world. There’s a new wave of pop artists from around the globe capitalising on this, and you’re about to meet another one.
Oh, and she’s very good.
Sara Pétursdóttir aka Glowie was born and raised in Iceland’s capital Reykjavik, surrounded by pine forests and embracing the solitude that growing up in a town of around 100,000 people gives you. Like many, her early musical education was provided by her older siblings; her brother introduced her to RnB staples Outkast, Justin Timberlake and Craig David, her sister providing J.LO, Sugababes and Destiny’s Child records.
From a young age, Glowie discovered that creating art helped fight off insecurities about her looks and after a handful of early releases in her home country, she relocated to London to pursue turning a therapeutic pastime into a full-blown career. In 2017, after attracting plenty of suitors, Glowie inked a deal with Columbia Records.
Glowie dropped her debut single with Columbia Body in October 2018, attracting the attention and praise from tastemakers such as i-D, The Line Of Best Fit and NME. The tune was co-written by songwriter extraordinaire Julia Michaels, who has penned cuts for the likes of Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears. The body-positive RnB jam is laced with style and hooks you in immediately.
After making such a strong start, it will be fascinating to see what Glowie hits the world with next.
