On Sunday night the 52nd ACM Awards took place in Las Vegas and honoured the best of the best in American country music, including Thomas Rhett and Miranda Lambert.
Once again the Academy of Country Music gathered its biggest and brightest stars for one big show in Las Vegas to crown the best in country music. As you can guess, it was quite the shindig, so we’ll round it all up for you!
Miranda Lambert and Thomas Rhett were sweeping up awards left, right and centre! Miranda Lambert, also nominated for Single Of The Year and Video Of The Year, took home an award for Album Of The Year with her record The Weight Of These Wings and the Female Vocalist Award Of The Year. The latter of which she’s now won eight consecutive times at the ACMs – that’s a record, folks! You can see her country magic for yourself in August as she tours the UK.
Thomas Rhett scored Male Vocalist Of The Year and Song Of The Year with his track Die A Happy Man, dedicated to his wife (with whom he’s expecting his first child AND they’re adopting – #couplegoals). He was clearly stunned by his wins, saying: “Everyone in this category shaped the artist that I am. I try to be the best singer that I can. Thank you so much to the ACMs, this is the most amazing award that I’ve ever received in my whole existence.” Thomas Rhett just finished a successful UK tour last fall but he just can’t get enough and brings his Home Team tour back to our shores in November.
One of ountry’s younger superstars, Maren Morris, took home the award for New Female Vocalist Of The Year having also been nominated for Female Vocalist Of The Year and Album Of The Year for her record Hero. If you missed her at this year’s Country To Country festival, she’s back in the UK this November.
Other nominees are also headed your way this year to fulfill all your country music dreams: Lady Antebellum (nominated for Vocal group Of The Year), Kelsea Ballerini (nominated for Female Vocalist Of The Year and Video Of The Year) and Brandy Clark (nominated for New Female Vocalist Of The Year).
Performance of the night
There was a special performance by mega-boyband the Backstreet Boys who had recently recorded a track with country superstars Florida Georgia Line, the video of which featured the bands’ wives in a loving tribute of their support. Your favourite 90’s boyband with a sprinkle of country? Yes please!
After getting engaged just a few months earlier, Sam Hunt decided to hop off stage during his performance of Body Like A Backroad and sat next to his fiancee for the final verse of the song.
Country power couple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw showed off some adorable PDA during their performance of The Way You Love Me, the couple’s latest single. As the song finishes Faith Hill leaps into Tim’s arms and we all just go “awwwww!”. Check it out here.
