Review: Zedd is ‘mesmerising’ at O2 Kentish Town Forum
As a Zedd enthusiast yet first timer to his to his live show, I’d be lying if I said a cold and rainy Sunday evening wasn’t slightly off putting, even for me as a huge fan.
Regardless, with my friends in tow, we made the trip to London’s O2 Kentish Town Forum, rugged up in the usual winter essentials ready to see what the night ahead would deliver.
As we reached the venue, we already knew committing to our plan was a winner. The buzz could be felt from outside the venue, even though the Forum was only at roughly half capacity. In need of a support act to bring the energy and prep the crowd, there was no one better for the job than LA duo Vendata. The boys had constant presence, dropped tune after tune and had the crowd heaving on the dance floor. Needless to say the venue was packed by the end of their set, and our winter essentials had settled in on the floor for the sweaty evening ahead!
As Vendata left the stage and the crowd wanting more, the Zedd chants began and the anticipation rose. As the venue went to black, the crowd went wild as the opening melody of Spectrum tantalised our ears. The stage went white and Zedd appeared – with one shared look amongst our group, we instantly knew this was going to be a performance not to disappoint!
True Colours could not have been a more fitting title for the tour after experiencing the live production. The visual LED display was so mesmerising; it is an experience that needs to be seen to be believed. Taking you on a journey through different realities, timed to perfection with the setlist really enhanced the live experience – the vibe in the venue reflected this.
All the hits were played, from Stay the Night to Break Free (as well as awesome remixes and club bangers). A personal highlight was the play of Clarity in conjunction with an on point lazer show and streamer drop from the roof; the crowd was electric.
An encore was inevitable, and the set went far too quickly. The mixture of amazing visuals and Zedd’s luring stage presence made this event one of the best dance gigs I’ve attended in 2015.
