Preview: Skate at Somerset House to host club nights and one-off jazz skate

Skate at Somerset House is bringing the spirit of hip-hop, dub, R&B, disco and house club nights to the ice this winter.

Rob da Bank leads an impressive list of guest DJs who will soundtrack the London rink, transporting skaters to the euphoric happy place we usually associate with festivals and clubs after dark.

The Bestival co-founder and DJ kicks off this season’s line-up with Purple Rave on Thursday 19 November, a party dedicated to the music of Prince. The winter programme will then welcome nights by Ministry of Sound, Island Records, Ibiza Rocks, Dalston Superstore, Horizon Festival and more.

Plus for the first time, The South London Soul Train will be bringing their legendary funk and soul sounds to the ice, while fellow newcomers License 2 Trill will play the freshest in hip-hop and dancehall.

As if that wasn’t enough, Somerset House have also partnered with EFG London Jazz Festival for the first time to present Jazz Skate, a special one-off series of skating sessions on Sunday 22 November.

Skaters can glide under the stars to a jazz soundtrack from critically acclaimed jazz pioneer Orphy Robinson, who has played with an astounding number of musicians over the last three decades, from Robert Wyatt to Courtney Pine.  He is accompanied by saxophonist James Morton, who has appeared with many well-known artists including Kasabian and Roni Size.

Sounds dreamy, right?
