It’s our favourite time of the week – New Music Friday is the new release fix you need to get your weekend started. This week we’ll be listening to Depeche Mode, Zara Larsson, Sorority Noise and more.
What’s even better about New Music Friday is that you can also listen to a lot of the new music live. We’ve also found a few artists who’ve got new records out and are about to take them on tour. Double win!
We kick off New Music Friday with one of the most influential electronic band of our time. Depeche Mode are back with a new album after four years and it has us all the more excited for their show at London Stadium this summer. Spirit is packing a punch, and not just musically but lyrically. The English trio brace the current political landscape in a very direct way. It’s a record unlike anything they’ve ever done before. Make sure to see them live and get your tickets today. Grab the album here.
New music from Sweden comes courtesy of talented singer songwriter Zara Larsson with the follow-up her debut album. So Good cements Zara’s status as rising star in pop music. Her fearless attitude and relentless talent in writing catchy tunes is all bottled up in this new record. The 19-year old has already lined up slots at this year’s Parklife and Isle Of Wight Festivals. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.co.uk. Grab the album here.
Another banger of a record is out this week with Sorority Noise‘s You’re Not As _____ As You Think. The record has everything you need from an emotional rollercoaster with energetic opener No Halo to the more solemn last track New Room. “I feel like we made something that was to the best of our abilities and the most concentrated effort we’ve been a part of.” says Cam Boucher. The indie rockers from Connecticut are set to play this year’s Slam Dunk festival. Grab the album here.
It’s album number four for Leeds lads Pulled Apart By Horses with their new piece The Haze. “We’ve never been this excited about releasing a new record and we have poured every ounce of energy, soul and creativity into it,” the band say of the new record. “We wanted to get back to the spontaneity of the first record, to just hang out and have fun and see what happened.” Sounds like a winner of a record to us! Catch them live across the UK at the end of this month. Last remaining tickets on sale here, and the album here.
English breakout punk rockers Counterfeit have released their debut album Together We Are Stronger on XtraMile Recordings. After a whirlwind 2016, this year looks like it’s only further upwards for the boys from London. The 10-track album was produced by Thomas Mitchener (Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Dead!). Frontman Jamie Campbell has said of the release: “It is an honour to announce our debut album Together We Are Stronger. This album has been a long time coming and it is now time for us to unshackle the beast that we have, for so long, tried to contain.” They’ll be touring the country with their new album in April, as well as appearing at Reading and Leeds in August. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.co.uk. Grab the album here.
No matter what music you’re into we all know at least one song by rapper Pitbull, and we love it! So it comes to no surprise that his new album Climate Change is a party in itself. The first release off the record Bad Man features a combination of artists you could only find in a Pitbull track: Robin Thicke, Aerosmith’s Joe Perry (headlining Download Festival) and blink-182’s Travis Barker. We know what record we’ll be spinning this Saturday night – how about you? Grab the album here.
Conor Oberst‘s new record is truly something else. Salutations contains songs rearranged from last year’s Ruminations album, now with a full band, plus a few new tracks. While last year’s piece featured Conor as a solo artist, the new release is a completely different listening experience. It was recorded on the sunny coast of California and co-produced by Jim Keltner who was named ‘spiritual leader’ by Oberst for this project. He’s coming to the UK in August with a full band and you can score your tickets with our friends at Ticketweb.co.uk. Grab the album here.
There’s something about rock from New Jersey that just never fails to be great. And Real Estate are no different. With their fourth studio album they’ve stayed true to their roots. Their catchy first single released off the album, Darling, also serves as the album’s opener and sets the tone for what’s to come. Beautiful riffs, clean mixes and tunes for days, it’s a record you can’t help but love. On 28 June they play Manchester’s O2 Ritz as part of their European tour. We’ve a few remaining tickets left on Ticketmaster.co.uk. Grab the album here.
Texas-bred indie band Spoon have released their ninth album Hot Thoughts today. With a career spanning over 20 years, Spoon never fail to reinvent themselves. And this once again shows on their new record with it’s blend between rock and psychedelic. Spoon are headed for the UK in June with three shows in Manchester, Glasgow and London. Make sure to check them out, we promise you won’t regret it. Get your tickets here, and the album here.
