Legendary guitarist and Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler has confirmed a UK arena tour, taking place in May 2019. The six show-run kicks off in Leeds on 18 May 2019, taking in gigs in Newcastle, Glasgow, London and Manchester before finishing in Birmingham on 30 May 2019.
Born in Newcastle, Knopfler first found fame as a founding member and frontman of the multi platinum-selling rock band Dire Straits. One of the best-selling groups of all time, over the course of their career, Dire Straits released six studio albums, selling over 100 millions units worldwide.
The groups most commercially successful record is their 1985 release Brothers in Arms. The album is the eighth biggest-selling album in UK chart history and earned the band two Grammy Awards. The record also spawned hit singles such as So Far Away, Money For Nothing, Walk of Life and, of course, the title track.
Since the group’s split in 1985, Knopfler has gone onto have a phenomenally successful career as a solo artist and has released eight studio albums of his own right. His last effort, 2015’s Tracker, peaked at No.3 on the UK Official Albums chart and has since achieved gold status in the UK.
The guitarist is currently gearing up for the release of his ninth studio album, Down The Road Whenever. The record is due for release on 16 November 2018 and one single has already been released from the album, the gripping Good On You Son. You can watch the fly-on-the-wall official music video below:
