Blackpool’s popular Livewire Festival has announced its first ever comedy line-up, taking place next to the town’s iconic Comedy Carpet.

On the bill will be Jason Manford, Alan Davies, Mark Watson and Chris Ramsey.

The festival returns following its successful debut in 2017 at the seaside resort of Blackpool this August bank holiday.

Hot off his hugely successful Muddle Class Tour, Manchester’s Jason Manford will headline the festival. The comedian won critical praise for his latest tour, where Jason addressed the difficulties of growing up working class but becoming middle class later in life.

Joining Jason on the line-up is the charming Alan Davies. Many will know Alan for his role as resident dunderhead on the hugely popular BBC quiz show QI and for his starring role in the crime drama series Jonathan Creek.

Award-winning comedian Mark Watson is also announced for the festival today. Mark is known for his multiple appearances on TV programmes such as Mock the Week, Taskmaster, Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie to You? and Live at the Apollo.

Completing today’s announcement is the news that Chris Ramsey will be performing stand-up at this year’s Livewire Festival. The comedian has appeared on entertainment programmes such as Celebrity Juice, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Livewire Festival takes place from 22 – 25 August 2019 at Tower Headlands Arena, Blackpool.

Earlier this month the festival announced that Ms. Lauryn Hill will be taking to the stage on Saturday 24 August.

Establishing herself as the lone female member of The Fugees, Ms. Lauryn Hill went on to launch her solo career in 1998 with the release of her critically acclaimed and seminal album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

The record produced hits Doo Wop (That Thing), Ex-Factor and Everything Is Everything, and went on to win Ms. Lauryn Hill a total of five Grammys. She celebrated the 20th anniversary of the record last year with a series of live performances.

After last year’s festival was cancelled due to the ill health of key personnel, a spokesperson for Blackpool Council said, “We are delighted to see the return of Livewire. It promises to deliver a feast of live entertainment to the Tower Festival Headland and adds yet another dimension to a brilliant programme of events lined up for Blackpool this summer.”

More artists will be announced in the coming months.

Livewire Festival takes over the Tower Headlands Arena, Blackpool in August.
