Isle of Wight Festival announces headliners
The festival has confirmed the first names for its 50th anniversary.
Isle of Wight Festival have announced the first acts for its 50th anniversary outing in 2018. The festival will once again welcome four headliners, confirming Depeche Mode, The Killers, Kasabian and Liam Gallagher.
Other confirmed names at this early stage are The Script, Van Morrison, James Bay and Blossoms.
“This year’s line-up brings together the best bands of the moment,” says Isle of Wight’s John Giddings. “This is a special year as it celebrates 50 years since the festival’s first incarnation so it’s fantastic to celebrate with returning artists and those appearing for the first time.”
Saturday headliners Depeche Mode have sold over 100 millions records with seventeen top ten UK albums, most recently releasing Spirit earlier this year.
“We are looking forward to seeing you at The Isle of Wight Festival in 2018,” the band’s Martin Gore exclaims.
The Killers follow up the release of their latest album Wonderful Wonderful with the headline slot on the Sunday, with fans likely to hear the likes of Mr Brightside, Somebody Told Me and Human alongside new tracks The Man and Run For Cover.
Kasabian, currently rounding up their UK arena tour, have established themselves as one of the biggest British rock bands, now ready to take to Isle of Wight on the Friday.
“We’re hugely honoured to play at the Isle of Wight Festival,” the band announce. “It’s kind of a big deal Jimi Hendrix played in the 70’s, 50 years on and we’re playing it! That’s pretty phenomenal, thanks for having us back! We promise Friday night will be the one!”
The headline slots are completed by former Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher, celebrating the recent release of his debut solo album As You Were, which shot straight to No.1 upon release.
The four headliners will be joined by Irish exports The Script, chart-topping breakthrough success James Bay, and indie rock upstarts Blossoms. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy Award winner Van Morrison will also take to the stage on Sunday 24 June, having recently released his 38th studio album Versatile.
Isle of Wight Festival will take place from the 21-24 June 2018 at Seaclose Park, Newport on the Isle of Wight. It marks 50 years since the first even back in 1968, having welcomed the likes of The Doors, The Who and Jimi Hendrix in his last ever UK show. Bands such as Foo Fighters, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Jay-Z, Coldplay and Fleetwood Mac have also graced its stages.
