Five reasons Rihanna is still our style icon
Ahead of Rihanna’s Anti world tour hitting the UK in June 2016, fashion blogger Sophie Eggleton celebrates the songstress’ unrivalled star quality…
1. She’s a fashion maven
She is now the creative director of Puma, has collaborated with River Island on a collection, featured in Dior campaigns, and struck a deal with Mac Cosmetics. She also wants to ensure fans of her style get things right, often giving out fashion advice to those that seek it via Instagram. Beware if you’re a brand trying to sell clothes using Rihanna as a celebrity endorsement though – she’ll call you out on it!
2. She’s unpredictable
David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Eminem, Nicki Minaj, Justin Timberlake, Shakira, Mikky Ekko….just a few of her musical partnerships.
Some of her musical collaborations made immediate sense and others made us scratch our heads (at first). Rihanna’s adored for her rebellious and sexy style, both musically and in fashion, so Coldplay’s formula didn’t seem like the most obvious dream pairing either. However their track Princess of China reached No.4 in the UK charts, which says it all. The unusual trio of Rih, Kanye and Macca peaked at No.3, too. She always keeps us guessing and proves any doubters wrong. Wonder who’s next on the list?
3. She’s powerful
‘The whole deal with this cover story was that she wouldn’t grant us any facetime, or phone time, but agreed to answer five questions over email.” She has the power to command a magazine cover without a real interview, as she proved with FADER’S 100th issue. The feature written by Mary H.K. Choi was headed this statement… ‘In a world of phonies, Rihanna is the realest. How she manages this, we may never know.’ Proof that she manages to charm the most cynical and jaded journalists!
4. She’s body confident
Her Instagram is a feast for the eyes when it comes to her famous figure. Not only do we see all of her amazing magazine covers (showcasing her now-iconic look, no less), but she’s also happy to post those personal shots taken day-to-day. She’s not afraid to post an alluring bikini shot, and it’s kind of refreshing to see someone embrace their appearance and sexuality in a non apologetic way. She also knows how to pose does our Rih Rih!
5. She doesn’t hold back live
Whether she’s on the front row or stepping out on stage, Rihanna is a constant source of style inspiration. As the Anti world tour approaches, we can’t wait to see what era she’ll put her stamp on. If the tour poster is anything to go by, she’ll be going all-out female power dressing.
Rihanna, we salute you!
