Enjoy the fascinating post-rock sounds of Icelandic band Sigur Rós

Sigur Rós are about as seasoned as it gets when it comes to post-rock Scandinavian outfits. Formed in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavík in 1994, lead vocalist and guitarist Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson, keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson and bassist Georg Hólm came together to create one of the nineties’ most intriguing new styles. Describing it alone might convince you to come to this gig: some people know the trio best for compressing classical music with elemental and experimental rock together to make a unique concoction of shrill, vivacious rock. Discover new singer-songwriter Isabel van Gelder

Staying in the Scandinavian realm this week, Dutch singer-songwriter Isabel van Gelder will be heading up SWG3. As opposed to Sigur Rós, van Gelder is fresh meat in the industry, however, having only debuted in 2023. Although she hasn’t yet broken mainstream, van Gelder has been slowly growing her fanbase across Europe via some spirited festival appearances at the likes of Popronde and Eurosonic Noorderslag. And after three solid years gaining wider recognition, the rising star has this year released her debut EP titled Minor Details which we’re sure she’ll perform from at her upcoming Glasgow gig. If you’re keen on Tom Odell and other alternative pop acts, you might just love her!

Hear Scottish legends Primal Scream right at home

Primal Scream is an example of Scotland’s most successful artists still firmly on the go after a bedazzled start in the eighties. Although all these years of continued popularity has added a few valued members to the band, this prized indie rock outfit started off with just Bobby Gillespie and Jim Beattie. You may know some of their biggest hits including ‘Loaded’, ‘Movin’ On Up’ and ‘Rocks’, or perhaps you’ve merely heard of the band with enough fascination and intrigue to find out how they sound live. Watch A$AP Rocky own the OVO Hydro

On the road for his hotly anticipated Don’t Be Dumb world tour, global hip hop icon A$AP Rocky will be on Glasgow soil this week. The American rapper is a veteran in the game and has so far produced four studio albums since 2013 (the latest of which is where the tour name was derived). Most recently, A$AP Rocky joined fellow rapper Tyler, the Creator during his set in London’s All Points East to perform ‘Who Dat Boy’ together. And of course, you may be familiar with Rocky’s relationship with pop superstar Rihanna, with whom he has three children. Come and see him in Glasgow’s biggest arena and bring along a pal.

Be wowed by multi-instrumentalist Jaguar Sun

Canadian indie project Jaguar Sun is a solo project fronted by Chris Minielly. He’s typically known for reflective indie songwriting largely written around growth and love, so if you’re keen to discover some class synth-driven jams and guitar-led ballads alike, he might be for you. The Ontario-based musician has this year released his latest studio album, Daisy, which is an audio diary of recent memories weighed down by myriad emotions and life lessons. We think his will be an easy, laid back gig to spend a free evening at, so get yourself along now if you fancy some fun plans!

Wrap yourself in the blues with Chicago act Gia Margaret

Chicago-born Gia Margaret is fresh from her latest album, Singing, which came out to rave reviews in April this year. She’s a melancholy singer-songwriter known for heartwrenching ballads with a penchant to go viral, so she’s garnered a decent fanbase since her breakthrough track ‘Hinoki Wood’ in 2023. She’s wistful, she’s bittersweet, and she’s perfect for a night in wrapped in the emotional blues. Sometimes you just need some honest songs hell-bent on confession and honesty, and Gia Margaret couldn’t be more suited to such a mood. Experience theatre pro Michael Ball on his vivacious Glow tour

English veteran singer Michael Ball OBE is on his Glow tour in Glasgow this week! The musical theatre star is best known for originating the role of Marius Pontmercy in the West End production of Les Miserables back in 1985, and he’s since been on the constant rise, appearing in other high-profile shows including Jesus Christ Superstar, Hairspray and Sweeney Todd. Now, though, Ball is celebrating the release of his latest solo album, Glow, which is fresh from this year. Appreciate the beauty of classical music by André Rieu

Dutch violinist and conductor André Rieu is a pro at bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together to enjoy the beauty and whimsy of classical music. Now, you can see him live at the Hydro performing a collection of waltzes from opera, film, theatre and ballet with his self-founded Johann Strauss Orchestra. It’s not meant to be stuffy, or boring, or exclusive to a certain class of people. In Rieu’s world, everyone is welcome to hum and dance along to the orchestral music spanning numerous decades, and perhaps you’ll find a new favourite piece. Spend an electric night at the heavy metal Spiritbox concert

Canadian heavy metal band Spiritbox are known best for viral hits including ‘Circle With Me’, ‘Holy Roller’ and ‘Jaded’ after establishing themselves in 2017. The core group is made up of guitarist Mike Stringer and vocalist Courtney LaPlante, who are married, and they’re joined by bassist Josh Gilbert and drummer Zev Rose. You can see them this week in Glasgow, where they’ll appear at the SEC Centre on a stop of their Tsunami Sea arena tour – their biggest to date.
