It’s been 17 years since Jay Z released Big Pimpin
Jay Z will be headlining Virgin V Festival this summer.
It’s 17 years to the day since rap superstar and business mogul Jay Z dropped his summer anthem, Big Pimpin. The hit features UGK, and samples Egyptian track Khosara Khosara.
It was the fifth single to be taken from Jay Z’s Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter, and easily the most recognisable. Vol. 3 dropped two years before the defining The Blueprint.
As well as being the most successful single from Jay Z’s fourth album, the song was accompanied by a milestone in music video, filmed with a big budget in Trinidad. The clip features UGK, although Pimp C reportedly was less than happy with the situation.
Jay Z may have come a long way since Big Pimpin, a song with themes he himself has questioned since, but it remains instrumental in the rise of the hip-hop megastar.
So sit back and soak up those 2000 vibes by watching the video below:
Jay Z will be appearing at Virgin V Festival on Saturday 19 August in Weston Park in Shropshire, and Sunday 20 August in Hylands Park in Chelmesford. Tickets are available now through Ticketmaster.co.uk.
