How to avoid fake “speculative” tickets for live events

It’s important that fans understand what a practice called “speculative listing” (spec listing) is and how to avoid it

At Ticketmaster, we are dedicated to combatting spec listings, where touts sell fans fake tickets. This practice is unfair, unethical and takes advantage of fans.

What is a spec listing?

Speculative listing is when touts list tickets for sale on unofficial resale sites even though they do not actually have those tickets. This tricks fans into spending more or buying tickets the seller doesn’t even have.

How to spot spec tickets

Don’t trust anyone claiming to have tickets before they have officially gone on sale to the public. These listings are not real tickets.

One of the latest schemes in spec ticketing is touts selling codes for ticket sales. Only Ticketmaster or the artist team can issue codes – they cannot be purchased or transferred. Each code is unique to an individual account. Do not trust anyone selling a code – it will not work.

To fight speculative ticketing together, we recommend you always purchase from official sources. If in doubt, head to the artist’s own website, as the official ticket source/s will always be listed there.
