Get to know these fresh comedy acts about touring the UK

These comedians are worth the hype – and coming to a venue near you

September is here, and if you thought that the world of comedy was ready for a breather after a summer of outdoor shows, festival spots and runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe then you simply must be having a laugh.

There are countless brand new comedy tours about to kick off across the UK from a range of acts so dynamic and diverse that it doesn’t matter if you bring your partner or your granny, you’ll all be in stitches. With so much choice, we’ve picked some of the comedic highlights hitting the road over the next few months to help you find a new favourite.

Eddie Kadi

For fans of: Mo Gilligan

Though the real ones know Eddie Kadi has been picking up huge acclaim on the comedy circuit since the late 00s and early 2010s – when the BBC called him “the most famous comedian you’ve never heard of,” before becoming the first Black British comedian to headline The O2 – it feels like it’s all been coming together perfectly for the stand-up and presenter in the last few years. As the host of BBC Radio 1 Xtra’s UK Afrobeats Show and a contestant on 2023’s Strictly, the British-Congolese entertainer is becoming a household name, but his debut show Let Me Land reminds us that stand-up is Kadi’s lifeblood, as he takes us on his journey from arriving in the UK as a child to becoming one of its most promising comedians

Emmanuel Sonubi

For fans of: Tom Davis, Romesh Ranganathan

Bouncer, IT guy… Emmanuel Sonubi tried his hand at all sorts of jobs before he began rocketing up the comedy ranks in the mid 2010s. This was the subject of his last show Curriculum Vitae, but in his brand new show Life After Nearly Death we get to know Sonubi even more candidly, as he details his on-stage heart failure and other troubling moments from his past and how they’ve affected his life and career. If that all sounds a bit heavy, don’t worry, we saw the show in Edinburgh: trust us, the laughs hit even harder too.

Kane Brown

For fans of: Aurie Styla

Loved for his raucous Rated 18 podcast, Kane Brown injects his stand-up shows with a similar level of naughtiness and unfiltered chaos that will leave you aching from laughter. For fans of: Russell Howard, French & Saunders

After joining Durham University’s comedy sketch group alongside fellow alumni Ed Gamble and Nish Kumar during her time in higher education, Stevie Martin has been conjuring daft sketches ever since. Her show Clout is a tightly-knitted tech-based gag-a-thon that unravels her anxieties about the transition from online comedy to standing live on stage. Who knows, it may even help you pry yourself away from your phone. For an hour, at least.

Thomas Green

For fans of: Mo Gilligan, Jon Richardson

Thomas Green – not to be confused with bonkers US comedian Tom Green – is heaps of fun. The only requirement for his live shows is that you keep up pace with the Australian funnyman’s chaotic, charismatic and tangential-as-you-like brand of comedy. Dubbed a “serious funny f**ker” by Russell Kane, there’s a method to his madness that resulted in a sell-out debut tour. Thankfully he’s back with brand new show Brainstorm which will undoubtedly set those synapses alight.
