New Elvis compilation will see stars covering his greatest hits
The project aims to send the singer's back catalogue up the charts with help from Doja Cat and more
To go along with the release of Baz Lurhmann’s ‘Elvis’ biopic, a new compilation album is in the works with contributions from a host of artists. The album will see Elvis’ greatest hits covered by current stars in order to introduce a new generation to the King of Rock and Roll. The list of contributors is still largely unknown, although a version of ‘Hound Dog’ by Doja Cat has been teased.
Whilst there is much excitement around the project, die-hard Elvis fans may not be so happy. A source told The Sun: “It’s hugely controversial. Elvis fans are die hard and see any tampering as sacrilege, but Warner Bros wanted to bring his music to a new audience. He is one of the most successful musicians of all time, but this album will help introduce his music to a new generation of kids.”
The album will likely be part of the soundtrack of the biopic, which features Austin Butler as Elvis and Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker, the singer’s manager. The film is slated for release in June, with the album likely coming out around the same time.
