The hit musical is now showing at The Barbican, London.
Producers have unveiled a new trailer for Jesus Christ Superstar.
Following two sold-out seasons at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, the new production is now showing at The Barbican, London until Saturday 24 August 2019.
Jesus Christ Superstar stars Robert Tripolino in the role of Jesus. The Australian actor’s theatre credits include Omar in Disney’s Aladdin, Chino in West Side Story and Jean-Michel in La Cage Aux Folles.
Ricardo Afonso plays the role of Judas in the new production. Ricardo has previously appeared as the Taxi Driver in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and as Alberto Beddini in Top Hat.
Afro-soul singer Sallay Garnett will take on the role of Mary. The artist released her latest album This Heart in 2017 and has toured in the UK, US and Sierra Leone.
Previous X Factor winner Matt Cardle* will appear as Pilate. The musician has sold over 2.2 million records and has appeared on stage in Memphis as Huey Calhoun, winning a WhatsOnStage Award.
Cavin Cornwall reprises the part of Caiaphas, having previously played the role in the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and the Lyric Opera of Chicago productions of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Nathan Amzi will play the role of Annas. Nathan’s theatre credits include Heathers, Henry V, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Disney’s Aladdin.
Samuel Buttery, who most recently appeared on stage in Fat Blokes, stars as Herod, with Tim Newman reprising his performance as Simon, and Matthew Harvey playing Peter.
Jesus Christ Superstar is directed by Timothy Sheader.
Written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, the rock opera made its debut on Broadway in 1971, before transferring to London’s West End where it ran for eight years.
