The Truth comes to the West End with Stephen Mangan, Janie Dee and more

Florian Zeller’s wicked comedy lands in the Apollo Theatre this June

Florian Zeller’s The Truth arrives in the West End this summer, translated by Christopher Hampton, for a fourteen-week season at the Apollo Theatre. The smart, subversive comedy will open on 9 June, playing throughout July and August before closing on 12 September.

Olivier-nominated in its original 2016 West End run, The Truth returns to London’s stages for a brand-new star-studded production, helmed by director Lindsay Posner. Audiences will be reintroduced to Michel, whose world starts to unravel after he begins an affair with his best friend’s wife.

Starring will be Tony nominee Stephen Mangan, who returns to the London stage alongside fellow stars Ardal O’Hanlon, Sarah Hadland and double Olivier Award-winner Janie Dee. Surprising, addictive and laugh-out-loud funny, The Truth explores the web of secrets woven between two couples, and the bombshell that no one is ready to face.

Producer Simon Friend said: “The Truth is an ingenious puzzle of a play. What initially appears as a playful comedy about adultery effortlessly evolves into something much deeper, while remaining endlessly entertaining. When Florian’s meticulously structured house of cards collapses, you realise that you’ve been in the hands of a writer in complete control of his craft. Florian knows exactly how to pull the rug from under you, as he did repeatedly in The Father film, which was the last project we collaborated on. He does so again here, but there are considerably more laughs this time! Christopher Hampton’s lean and witty translation has enabled us to compile a cast to die for in this exciting return to the West End.”
