Mel C performs the Spice Girls classic Wannabe with the School of Rock cast
At last night’s performance of School of Rock, ex-Spice Girl Melanie C joined the cast on stage for a very special curtain call.
Surprising unsuspecting audience members after the show, the singer led the child cast in a rendition of the Spice Girls’ No.1 single, Wannabe. Also joining them on stage was the musical’s leading man, David Fynn, who plays Dewey.
The musical, which is directed by Laurence Connor, has lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Julian Fellowes and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, recently won the WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Musical – it’s now been nominated for three Oliviers.
Based on the film of the same name, which starred comedian and actor Jack Black, the show originally opened on Broadway before arriving in the West End last year.
Melanie C already has form with West End musicals, having previously starred in Blood Brothers at the Phoenix Theatre as Mrs Johnstone from 2009 – 2010, and as Mary Magdalene in the 2012 tour of Jesus Christ Superstar.
School of Rock is now showing at the New London Theatre. Get your tickets now via Ticketmaster.co.uk.
