Five West End shows to see if you liked Wicked

Here’s what you should see next in the West End after seeing Wicked The Musical

Feeling bereft since leaving the Victoria Apollo theatre? If you’re still stuck on your trip to Wicked, we don’t blame you. But there’s plenty more to discover in London’s West End, from twisted fairytales to modern masterpieces. Here are the five shows you should see next in the West End if you liked Wicked.

The Phantom Of The Opera

Candles, ballgowns, mysterious masked figures… Like Wicked, The Phantom Of The Opera is a treat for the eyes as well as the ears. A true spectacle of a show, it’s been a favourite with West End audiences for four decades, thanks to its mystical muchness and to a score that will be stuck in your head for weeks. Catch it at London’s beautiful His Majesty’s Theatre.

Into The Woods

There’s more than one witch to be reckoned with on the West End right now, with the immersive revival of Stephen Sondheim’s classic playing at the Bridge Theatre. Expect magic, mayhem and all your favourite fairytale characters in one place. Just like in Wicked, Happy Ever After might not be exactly what it seems… Don’t delay, as Into The Woods will only be playing until 18 April.

Hamilton

Speaking of stories you might think you already know: have you ever imagined Alexander Hamilton rapping? Over at the Victoria Palace Theatre – just around the corner from Elphaba and Glinda – Hamilton delivers an unorthodox American history lesson, retelling the story of the founding fathers with a hip-hop and rap influenced score. Another favourite with London audiences, it’s unlike anything else you’ll see in the West End.

Cabaret

Cabaret is another musical that uses its larger-than-life form to dig at something darker. Set in the Kit Kat Club – a purpose-created immersive space in the Playhouse Theatre – it invites audiences into the underbelly of 1930s Berlin, to witness for themselves the trouble brewing behind the curtain. This revival has been critically acclaimed since it opened, winning seven Oliviers and frequently inviting famous faces to take on its leading roles.

Gravity

If you’re unlikely to get back to London anytime soon, no need to worry – the Gravity tour is coming to a theatre near you in April. Three West and Broadway powerhouses in the form of Kerry Ellis, Louise Dearman and Rachel Tucker are joining forces on this new live show, and as the name suggests, all happen to be former Elphabas. Expect favourites from Wicked as well as a multitude of other shows including Evita, Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, Oliver! and many more.
