Richard Gadd to bring Baby Reindeer to the West End
Here's what fans need to know about the one man show, opening in London this April.
Richard Gadd will bring his one man show Baby Reindeer to the West End later this year.
Baby Reindeer will show at London’s Ambassadors Theatre for a strictly limited run, opening on 2 April and running until 2 May 2020.
The show first debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it picked up two awards – the Scotsman Fringe First Award for New Writing and a Stage Award for Acting Excellence.
Following its Fringe debut, the one man show played at London’s Bush Theatre and earned Gadd nomination for the Off West End Theatre Award for Best Performer.
The show’s plot is based on how a harrowing act of kindness plunged Gadd into years of stalking and harassment.
Its synopsis reads: When award-winning comedian Richard Gadd offers a stranger a free cup of tea, he has no sense of the nightmare to come. One act of kindness. Six years of torment.
Directed by Jon Brittain, the show has received rave reviews with the Evening Standard describing it as, “A haunting, unsettling monologue about the nature of obsession”, and WhatsOnStage.com declaring Baby Reindeer to be “Utterly Compelling”.
The show is written, performed and conceived by Richard Gadd, an award-winning writer, comedian and actor.
On-screen he has appeared in shows such as the BAFTA-nominated BBC2 drama Against The Law, BBC3’s Clique and E4’s Tripped, and is currently filming alongside Stephen Graham and Daniel Mays in Sky’s upcoming six part comedy series Code 404.
Gadd is also a prolific TV comedy writer and has written for shows such as The Last Leg and Ultimate Worrier, as well as on the latest series of the hit Netflix comedy Sex Education.
Baby Reindeer will run at London’s Ambassadors Theatre from 2 April until 2 May 2020, after which it will transfer to New York.
