Watch our Minimaster at the UEFA Women’s Champions League launch

Minimaster Illani attended the launch of the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final in Cardiff.

Illani sat with Helen Ward, Gemma Evans, Nadia Lawrence; three members of the Wales Women’s National Football team, as well as National Team Manager, Jayne Ludlow. She also spoke to young members of the Cor Glanaethwy Choir about the event, and their love of the sport.

Each opened up about what inspired them to take up the sport, as well as their excitement around the forthcoming UEFA Women’s Champions League Final in Cardiff on the 1 June 2017.

The event also saw a surprise performance by the choir, who took over Cardiff Central Library for a flashmob performance, stunning the otherwise unassuming public. The choir themselves will be performing at the event.

“Women’s football is a growing sport and the standard is improving all the time.” Jayne Ludlow said when announcing the event. “It will be an interesting final, and a real football spectacle, when the final comes to Cardiff next year.

“What a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of the women’s game in Wales and beyond. It provides us with a massive opportunity to increase participation numbers and interest in Wales’ national teams and domestic leagues.

“It is fantastic news that Wales will be staging the pinnacle event for European women’s club football. The UEFA Women’s Champions League is arguably the strongest competition for top level female players in the world.

“Having played in the competition with Arsenal and having had the honour of lifting the trophy in 2007, it will be great to welcome the world’s best female footballers to Wales in 2017.”
