Cyclist Jason Kenny has been added to the Six Day Manchester line-up, joining his previously announced wife and fellow Olympian Laura Kenny.

The inaugural Manchester event will take to the NSBC National Cycling Centre from 22 – 24 March 2019, welcoming some of the biggest names in the sport under one roof. It marks the first time in the Six Day Series the married couple will both compete.

Jason and Laura have however previously competed together at other events, including the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Although Laura will make her debut appearance at Six Day, Jason Kenny has previously competed at Six Day Rotterdam in 2013, eventually being beaten by fellow Brit Sir Chris Hoy by just one point. Six years later, Jason is now preparing to compete in his hometown.

“The Six Day series is a really unique event for both riders and fans – the atmosphere is like nothing else and I am really pleased to be competing at the first ever Six Day event in Manchester next week,” says Jason,

“Manchester is home and riding in front of a packed local crowd will be really exciting. There’s a hugely competitive line up and in the men’s and women’s field and this will be a bit of a family affair for us with Laura also competing in her first ever Six Day. We are both really looking forward to the event and hope the Manchester crowd get behind it next weekend.”

Jason Kenny has previously competed at Manchester’s HSBC National Cycling Centre, having won two Track World Cup titles and three medals in the city in 2008 – the same year he won two medals at the Beijing Olympics.

Laura Kenny is now preparing to make her Six Day debut at an event that combines the excitement and action of cycling with a live DJ and a party atmosphere.

“I’m really excited to take part in my first ever Six Day event, especially in Manchester. When I was pregnant I got to watch Six Day in London and it was one of few events that I was really sad to miss, so I’m really excited to have the opportunity to compete this year.” says Laura.

Celebrating the strong women’s line-up, Laura Kenny goes on to celebrate competing alongside Kirsten Wild, Elinor Barker, and Katie Archibald.

“It’s also turning into a very family focused event with Elinor and Megan (Barker) competing and now Jason (Kenny) joining the men’s elite – it will be nice to compete together, especially at my first Six Day in our home venue,” she adds.

The news comes alongside the addition of three-time Olympic medallist Steven Burke. Burke celebrates success at the 2008 Summer Olympics, taking home the Bronze medal, and as part of the 2012 Great Britain team that won the Olympic and World championships in the Team Pursuit. He also helped retain the title at the 2016 Olympics.

Six Day Manchester arrives in the city from 22 – 24 March 2019.
