Aussie champions on track to compete at Six Day London
Cyclists Cameron Meyer and Callum Scotson are confirmed for this year’s event.
The best of the best are coming again for Six Day London at Lee Valley VeloPark on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Organisers have just announced that Cameron Meyer and Callum Scotson, the Australians who made their Six Day Series debut at the 2016 London event, will return and are intent on improving upon last year’s third-place finish.
The pair recently triumphed at the World Championships in Hong Kong, with Meyer winning two golds and Scotson scoring a Team Pursuit gold. They also collected a silver in the Madison.
Eight-time World Champ Meyer said he’s looking forward to competing again to London. “Last year was a great event in that it was so well organised, the public really liked it and it just had so much excitement behind it,” he explained. “[That] all contributed to us deciding to race again this year.”
James Durbin, CEO of Madison Sports Group, which owns and promotes the Six Day Series, said everyone is thrilled to welcome Meyer and Scotson back.
“Last year they were something of an unknown quantity but showed their promise with a podium finish,” added Durbin. “After their exploits at the World Track Championships earlier in the year, they’re definitely ones to watch.”
Six Day London on 24 – 29 October 2017 will be the first event in this year’s Six Day Series, with Six Day Berlin scheduled for 25 – 30 January 2018 and Six Day Copenhagen running from 1 – 6 February 2018. The overall Six Day Series title will then be held in Palma Arena, Mallorca.
More riders will be confirmed in the coming weeks, with Mark Cavendish already set to ride in the men’s competition and Katie Archibald in the refreshed women’s competition.
