Twenty-year-old Dominic Harrison AKA YUNGBLUD is putting his hometown of Doncaster on the modern rock’n’roll map. His debut album 21st Century Liability came out in July of last year, fast becoming a streaming sensation. Add a consistently electrifying live performance and hugely passionate fan base to the mix and the hype surrounding this young talent just makes sense.
Take recent track Loner. Released at the start of the year, it has racked up over two million views on YouTube in just three weeks.
YUNGBLUD’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. Just last year he broke out of the intimate Doncaster live scene to take the UK by storm. Taking four out of five songs from his 2018 debut self-titled EP over to his full-length album released in the same year, he consistently makes admirably adventurous alternative rock that a legion of fans have latched onto. Clever and catchy lyrics, as well as astute observations make YUNGBLUD’s social commentary and dissection of youth culture all the more authentic.
His 21st Century Liability debut showcases YUNGBLUD’s smorgasbord of styles. There’s everything from guitar-driven indie to the popular sounds of trap infused hip hop, explored across the album’s twelve tracks. This amalgamation of sounds could feel awkward and haphazard but it’s anything but … it feels essential.
As well as the hit debut record, YUNGBLUD also penned two tracks that featured on Netflix’s star-studded 13 Reasons Why soundtrack. As well as ths streaming service, YUNGBLUD has been championed by the likes of NME and the BBC in his short career. Now, at the time of writing, he’s touring down under and it’s likely only a matter of time until he breaks the States. With headline shows and festival appearances on the horizon, YUNGBLUD’s total world domination is underway.
