Weekend city guide: 14 – 17 July

Ready for another action-packed, music-filled weekend in the UK?

We’re halfway through July, which means summer is at its festival best! Plus, a wide range of concerts, world-class sport and gut-busting comedians are waiting to rock your world.

Here are our picks for what’s hot in UK cities across the country from 14 – 17 July. Check out our London, Manchester and Scotland guides for even more great ideas.

15 – 16 July
Victoria Park

Bringing together the best British and international artists from electronic, hip hop, rock and grime, Lovebox is ready to outdo itself again this year. Prepare yourself for two days of party action with a jaw-dropping array of headliners including Major Lazer, LCD Soundsystem, Katy B, Run the Jewels, Jungle and George Clinton.

17 July
Victoria Park

Can’t spend an entire weekend at a festival? Immerse yourself in mind-blowing music and partying for just a day by heading to Citadel. Take a look at these headliners: Sigur Rós, Caribou, Lianne La Havas and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. There’ll be theatre, sport and wellness offerings as well as amazing food (tip: try the Sunday Feast).

16 July
The O2

Warning: This MMA slugfest is going to be brutal. And you’ll love every moment of it! Showcased on the fight card is a heavyweight matchup between Matt Mitrione and Oli Thompson. Two of England’s top welterweights – Michael “Venom” Page and Paul “Semtex” Daley – will also be pitted against fierce new opponents.

Key 103 Summer Live
16 July
Manchester Arena

This is a pop and rock extravaganza you can’t miss. The line-up at Key 103 Summer Live is headed up by OneRepublic (we love their newest track, Wherever I Go) and the phenomenally popular Years & Years. Sigala, Craig David, Clean Bandit with Louisa Johnson, SIGMA and many more will join them in the warm weather celebration.

15 – 16 July
Edinburgh Castle’s Esplanade

Stereophonics are part of this year’s Concerts at the Castle summer series. See the Welsh three-piece band perform against a stunning backdrop – Edinburgh’s iconic fortress that dates back to the 12th Century and sits high above the city on Castle Rock.

The Open
14 – 17 July
Royal Troon (near Glasgow)

Watch top players tee off in a four-day crusade for the Claret Cup at the 145th Open Championship. The tournament is played at Royal Troon, one of the greatest links courses in the world. Cheer on Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy and Britain’s other great golfers.

Sarah Millican
16 – 17 July
Symphony Hall

Bold and brazen, Sarah Millican wins over audiences with gag-packed anecdotes about life’s curiosities. She’s recently embarked on her fourth stand-up tour, Outsider – and we can’t wait to get her take on the great outdoors.

Kaiser Chiefs
16 July

Here’s a concert that’s sure to please! Kaiser Chiefs, the enormously talented indie rockers from Leeds, will belt out old and new hits. What’s more, chart-topping rapper Dizzee Rascal and the band Everything Everything will add to the sublime night of music.
