Watch the emotional tribute to Manchester at Parklife
The Major of Manchester, and emergency services, joined The 1975 on stage.
Over the weekend, Parklife Festival hosted an emotional tribute to the victims of the Manchester attack.
Matt Healy of The 1975 led a “minute of noise” after moving speeches from Councillor Pat Karney, Carl Austin-Behan and Andy Burnham.
With The 1975 preparing to take to the Main Stage for their headline slot on Saturday, the screens lit up with “We Stand Together”. What followed was a fitting tribute by some huge names in entertainment, including Manchester’s own Carl Cox and Goldie.
Paramedics, fire services, nurses and members of The Greater Manchester Police were then led onto the stage by Parklife organisers Sacha Lord and Jon Drape.
“All of these people have helped the victims in the arena,” said Carl Austin-Behan. “The police protected us, the fire services protected us, the paramedics protected us. Let’s have a big round of applause…I want to thank all those people, from the hotels, to the taxi companies, the people on twitter, on Facebook, on social media, they opened their doors.”
“The fact that we’re so unique, so inclusive, so diverse, and that is what Manchester is all about,” the city’s first openly Lord Mayor added.
His sentiments were mirrored by current Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham. “Always choose love over hate,” he implored.
The heartfelt speeches were followed by The 1975 vocalist Matt Healy’s call for a minute of noise.
