Tour diary: Light You Up take tmBlog on the road
It’s an exciting week to be in Light You Up, as the Birmingham boys prepare to support PVRIS at their hotly-anticipated headline shows.
Fresh from the Pure Noise Records tour, where they totally blew us away with Four Year Strong and co. The band show us exactly what went down on the road with their exclusive tour diary – check out all the snaps below.
Wake up. Our day normally begins with finding some breakfast and coffee, discussing the night before, and watching a couple of movies on the way to the next show.
Arrive. Once we’re at the venue we load in our equipment, check the day’s schedule, and then relax in the dressing room until sound check.
Soundcheck. We spend some time with our wonderful front of house engineer Paul until he’s happy with the sound of the room, and we’re happy with the sound on stage.
Explore. After soundcheck we go out, grab some food and explore some of the city that we are in.
Warm-up. We all get together about 30 minutes before we play to warm up, and generally wind each other up.
Ritual. Since Light You Up’s very first show, we have done the same pre-show ritual involving some chanting, singing and dancing. It gets everybody into a good vibe and ready for the show.
Showtime. Show days in reality are quite boring, but for the 30-40 minutes that we are on stage, everything is fast and loud, and it’s a hell of a lot of fun.
It has been amazing to release our debut album this year, and having people sing along in various cities across various countries blows our minds each and every day.
The energy and anticipation built up through the day is released and before we know it, the show is over, and it’s onto the next show. However we make sure we’re around to hang out after the show, and say thank you to anyone who takes an interest in the band.
Friends. On each tour we make great new friends, as well as catching up with old ones.
Light You Up will support PVRIS on tour at London’s Barfly and O2 Academy Birmingham this week.
