“This last year has been an absolute whirlwind for us” explains Baz, lead vocalist and frontman of Lancaster hard rockers Massive Wagons.

Over the past year, the band played Download Festival for the first time and saw the release of their fourth studio album Full Nelson achieve their highest chart position yet when the record landed at No.16 on the Official UK Albums Chart. The album was also the band’s first release on legendary independent label Earache Records.

Showing no signs of slowing down in 2019, Massive Wagons are currently preparing for a run of headline tour dates in April, after which they’ll be hitting the road supporting The Wildhearts and then onto an arena tour with Lynard Skynyrd. The band are also in early preparation for the follow-up to Full Nelson.

“It’s great to be a part of this scene, and this year we are hitting it even harder”, says Baz. “The new album is half written, we’ve talked to some producers we’d never have dreamed of working with before and the headline tour is nearly sold out across the board. Life is good for Massive Wagons.”

Ahead of the tour, we asked the frontman to make us a playlist of some of his favourite tracks to listen to while out on the road.

MonsterTruck – Don’t Tell Me How To Live
“I’ve been a big fan of everything about MonsterTruck for ages now, and I know this track has been out a while now but I think it’s the one the fans, especially me, were waiting for. It’s absolutely epic! It’s just got everything I love about big rock tracks, I can listen to it over and over, big riffs and big vibe, mega.”

Status Quo – Mystery Song
“What can you say about the Quo? It’s instant, they just have a set of songs that reach right through generations of people. People know Status Quo immediately. Mystery Song is in my top three Quo tracks; Rick singing and Alan’s bass lines are outstanding. It’s boogie at its best.”

Slade – Far Far Away
“Possibly the finest rock/pop song ever written, well, in my opinion anyway. Like Quo, Slade have a cache of instant bangers but also an endless list of equally ace tracks that maybe aren’t as commercially huge. Over time these songs get lost a little and I think Far Far Away is one of them, it’s just sublime.”

Those Damn Crows – Blink Of An Eye
“In my opinion, these guys are top of the pile for new bands currently doing the biz in the UK and this track is massive. It’s my favourite new track in years, it had me immediately. The album is equally great and I really wish the best for these lads, top chaps they are. They genuinely remind me of a British Black Stone Cherry in their first two album era. A force live too.”

Blackfoot – Good Morning (Live)
“The best god damn southern rock band ever. Probably opening a can of worms with that statement but these lads rock. I got into them through Adam in the band and picked up Highway Song (Live) on vinyl. It’s a treasure that album, stands up with any live album In my opinion. That and Slade Alive are two of my favourite live albums.
