Top five selling Grime artists on Ticketmaster in 2016

The latest ticket data backs up Mercury Prize nods for grime pioneers Skepta and Kano.

Ticketmaster data shows that ticket sales for Grime artists are expected to be at their highest level since 2011, according to figures gathered on 5 August 2016.

Following the news that Grime pioneers, Skepta and Kano, have both been nominated for The Mercury Prize, Ticketmaster’s data proves that Grime is well and truly back.

Ticketmaster expects to sell more Grime tickets this year than it did in 2012, 2013 and 2014 COMBINED. Skepta is currently the top-selling live Grime act for 2016, with new queen of UK Grime, Lady Leshurr at number four, and man of the moment, Stormzy, at number five.

BBC Radio 1Xtra DJ, MistaJam, has witnessed the Grime revival first hand: “Grime never really went away, but the music coming out of the scene right now is really exciting,” he says. “The last Grime artist to win the Mercury was Dizzee Rascal back in 2003, and he’s still going strong headlining dance festivals like SW4 on August Bank Holiday, so it proves that Grime has longevity and can transcend different musical tastes.”

Ticketmaster expects to sell an unprecedented amount of tickets for Grime artists  in 2016, the highest number since 2011, when Dizzee Rascal was the top-selling live act. Veterans of the scene, Kano, Lethal Bizzle and Big Narstie, are amongst those to have put on shows this year, with shows later in the year to come from the new generation of Grime stars, including Novelist, and Manchester’s Bugzy Malone.
