The Mars Volta break 10 year hiatus with ‘Blacklight Shine’
The new single comes with a video directed by guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López
The Mars Volta have today released ‘Blacklight Shine’, their first new song in just under a decade. On the 19 June the influential prog. rock band took to Twitter with the coordinates 34.0556° N, 118.2457° W, which directed fans to a black cube in Los Angeles, which reportedly previewed the new single on entry. The Tweet also contained the caption “L’YTOME HODORXÍ TELESTERION”, which has got fans stipulating on online forums.
The single features an 11-minute video, directed by the band’s guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López, which you can watch below.
‘Blacklight Shine’ is The Mars Volta’s first new material since Noctourniquet, released in March 2012. The group disbanded later that year, though Rodríguez-López and vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala would reunite in 2017 for the At The Drive-In album in•ter a•li•a.
Some fans anticipated a return in 2021, but this ended up being La Realidad de Los Sueños, an 18-LP whole discography box set.
