The organisers of Glasgow Summer Sessions have today announced the festival will be returning in 2019 and topping the bill will be iconic rock band The Cure.

Set to take place on Friday 16 August 2019 at Bellahouston Park, the gig will be The Cure’s first show in Scotland in 27 years and is sure to be one of the most anticipated festival sets of the summer.

Also on the bill are Glasgow’s favourite sons Mogwai, fellow Scots The Twilight Sad and Welsh alt-rockers The Joy Formidable.

Now in its sixth year, Glasgow Summer Sessions has become a fixture of Scotland’s festival scene, attracting tens of thousands of fans and bringing world-class artists to the city such as Kendrick Lamar, Kings of Leon, N.E.R.D, Eminem, The Killers, Noel Gallagher and loads more.

The Cure are one of the most influential and legendary alternative bands of all-time. Since the release of their debut record Three Imaginary Boys in 1979, the band have gone onto release 13 studio albums, more than 40 singles and have performed more than 1,500 concerts all across the globe. It has been 10 years since the release of their last record 4:13 Dream, however in recent interviews lead singer and principal songwriter Robert Smith has hinted that a new The Cure album would happen sooner rather than later.

Some of the band’s best-known hits include Friday I’m in Love, Lovesong, Just Like Heaven and Boy’s Don’t Cry.

The Cure have made regular appearances on festival stages as well as headlined their own shows around the world. Their performance at Glasgow Summer Sessions in August will see the band headline a Scottish festival for the first time ever.
