The Irish pop icons return with their first album in nine years, Spectrum, and it’s got enough spirited, chart-topping balladry to make you forget they ever went away.

Their highly-anticipated comeback record marks Westlife‘s first full-length studio release since 2010’s Gravity.

Recorded in Dublin, LA and London, the 11 new tracks showcase a more upbeat side of award-winning band and includes four top five singles Hello My Love and Better Man, Dynamite, and My Blood which all feature Ed Sheeran as a co-writer credit.

Other collaborations include Ryan Tedder, Camille Purcell, and James Bay, plus the continuation of their long-standing partnership with superstar pop producer Steve Mac (who wrote the band’s number-one hits Swear It Again and World of Our Own).

The album’s fifth single, Without You came out on 14 November 2019.

Piano melodies lead sentimental ballads My Blood and Better Man while Dance changes tack, a poppy tune that wouldn’t be out of place on a Justin Timberlake record.

Album opener Hello My Love embodies the quintessential Westlife sound while evolving into something else entirely. Still, a mega-watt stadium filler, the addition of electro beats, keys and clapping give it a refreshing edge.

The same can be said for the album as a whole, Spectrum feels grown-up; a self-assured new direction which highlights their move from fresh-faced boyband into a confident and dynamic man-band.

Spectrum offers up plenty of crooning pop ballads, future chart-toppers, up-tempo and catchy crowd-pleasers, which after almost a decade have been well worth the wait.
