Dark pop makers Blackout Problems are riding high from the release of their sophomore studio album KAOS.

The record, a captivating assault on the senses, has received rave reviews and earned the band a growing UK fanbase, further bolstered by an appearance at last May’s The Great Escape Festival and a UK tour supporting Swedish rockers Royal Republic.

The band will return to UK shores at the end of January, taking in headline shows in London, Manchester and Nottingham. The four piece will then return to the UK in the summer for a slot at this year’s Download Festival.

Below, Blackout Problems pick out the songs that will soundtrack their forthcoming travels across Europe and give a bit of background as to why they chose each one.

Sights & Sounds – Black Mamba
“A fabulous band from Canada that not only lent us their track Poli’s Song for a cover compilation but also suck us in with their dark moods and exciting songwriting”.

Bring Me The Horizon – Ludens
“A band that is constantly evolving and reinventing themselves. Disregarding every rule there is and pushing the boundaries of what a rock or guitar-based band can do in 2020, this is the future”.

Smile & Burn – Leben Lang
“Berlin punks and some good friends of ours, who we love to share stages and backstage rooms with. Also, our very own Mario co-wrote this song so go give it some love”.

Like Lovers – Infinite
“This is a project by Jan Kerscher ,who owns and works the Ghost City Studio in Nuremberg, which we chose to record our recent single. The fact that he made this record for fun after the end of every working day blows my mind and will blow yours too”.

The Blaze – Territory
“We like air drumming to this while driving”.

The National – Don’t Swallow The Cap
“A voice that moves you deeply with beautifully composed drum parts and tones. How can you not love this band?!”

Battles – Atlas
“This is extremely interesting and demanding loop-based music performed by three (now two) very different individuals. It’s sometimes hard but always rewarding to dive into the world of Battles. They have a set on Boiler Room TV which is well worth a watch”.

Nerve – Great White (Carcharadon Carcharias)
“This is nothing but inspiring, a perfect marriage between human performance and machine-like sound. Jojo Mayer is the definition of a modern drummer”.

FJORT – Paroli
“We need bands and artists that speak the truth and stand for a positive and free-minded society and against an alt-right movement that keeps on infiltrating our system. FJORT reminds you what is important and supports the message with a musical power that will force you to listen”.

Roxette – Sleeping In My Car
“Our German booker Alex likes this song a lot. He’s not likely to read this but we want to show him appreciation and love. Alex, this one is for you. We love you”.
