New Music Friday: The xx, The Flaming Lips and more release new music
It’s our favourite time of the week – New Music Friday is the new release fix you need to get your weekend started. This week we’ll be listening to The xx, The Flaming Lips, Bonobo and more.
What’s even better about New Music Friday is that you can also listen to a lot of the new music live. We’ve found the artists who’ve got new records out and are about to take them on tour. Double win!
The xx – I See You
Probably THE most anticipated indie album in recent months is finally out. The release of the London trio’s third studio album comes four years after their last record Coexist. I See You is packed with emotion and drama from the usually more minimalist group. If you are as excited as we are about this release you can get your hands on it in our tmShop and we even have a few tickets left for selected dates of their tour here.
The Flaming Lips – Oczy Mlody
Oklahoma’s best psychedelic rock export treat us to their fourteenth studio album Oczy Mlody this week. Having recently played with pop icon Miley Cyrus, The Flaming Lips are just the right fit to take you to your happy place of unicorns and butterflies. And their new record doesn’t disappoint with its soothing, sombre sound and drifting synths. The Flaming Lips are headed for our side of the planet with two shows in the UK at the end of this month, with limited tickets on sale via Ticketmaster.co.uk. And if you want to escape into your own little psychedelic wonderland, Oczy Mlody is available in our shop.
Wiley – Godfather
He is the godfather of grime so it comes to no surprise that Wiley has named his new album accordingly. The musician dropped the highly anticipated new record via Spotify on Thursday. Get your own copy in our tmShop – and get this: it’s part of our 2 for £15 deal! If all that isn’t enough for you, catch Wiley at his Godfather show at the Roundhouse on 9 February with limited tickets left via Ticketmaster.co.uk.
Bonobo – Migration
DJ Simon Green’s newest and sixth Bonobo album Migration is also released today . “I felt like I had a genuine learning curve on this record, diving into aspects of production that I’d not really understood before,” he says of the record. The album comes out just in time to get into the tunes (get your copy here) and ready to dance the night away during his UK tour in March. You can grab a few limited tickets at Ticketmaster.co.uk.
Colony House – Only The Lonely
Nashville-based indie pop/rock band Colony House have debuted the follow up to their 2014 album When I Was Younger today. Produced by Peter Katis (previously worked with Interpol, The National, Frightened Rabbit and more) and Vance Powel (Jack White, Elle King, Beck) the album comes just ahead of their US tour and we are really hoping they’ll pay us a visit too.
Mayhem – De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Alive
Remember that epic album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Norwegian black metal band Mayhem released in 2004? The band have now released a live recording from Black Christmas Festival 2015 – the first time De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas was ever performed in its entirety. And, even better, you can also see the album as a whole live at London’s Electric Ballroom on 29 March. Tickets available via Ticketmaster.co.uk.
The Band of Heathens – Duende
Hailing from Austin, Texas, The Band of Heathens is the country-rock you need in your life right now. Their newest masterpiece Duende is available today and Rolling Stone have described it as a mix of “Americana earnestness with Stones Swagger” – we couldn’t agree more. They will be touring the US and parts of Europe in the spring, unfortunately not including the UK currently. Here’s to hoping we will catch them live soon!
SOHN – Rennen
Born in England, Christopher Taylor aka SOHN is one of the rising stars of 2017 and his new album Rennen is out now to prove just that. You can catch him at London’s Electric Ballrom on 1 March where he’ll be playing his new tracks – tickets via Ticketmaster.co.uk. If you fancy a listen before the show you can get your hands on the record in our tmShop.
Sepultura – Machine Messiah
Think Brazil and heavy metal don’t mix? Think again! 14 albums in, the band just can’t get enough with the new record Machine Messiah. If growling, thrash, power metal and a bit of jazz and soul is your thing then you should definitely own a copy of Sepultura‘s new album (available here) or catch them live on stage in Manchester and London with tickets via our friends at Ticketweb.co.uk.
Code Orange – Forever
More metal for you metal heads! Pittsburgh is calling and Code Orange have answered with their newest piece Forever (get a copy here). The 11-track album is the latest of three studio records the hardcore band have produced. Maybe we’ll see them in the UK soon if the metal gods are willing. We have our fingers truly crossed.
Check back every Friday for a list of album releases to get excited about.
