New Music Friday: Peter Doherty, Rolling Stones and more release new albums

It’s our favourite time of the week – New Music Friday is the new tunes fix you need to get your weekend started. This week we’ll be listening to Peter Doherty, Rolling Stones, the Hamilton Mixtape and more.

What’s even better about New Music Friday is that you can also listen to a lot of the new releases live! We’ve found the artists who’ve got new records out and are about to take them on tour. Double win!

Peter Doherty – Hamburg Demonstrations

The Libertine is back with his newest solo project Hamburg Demonstrations and critics are already calling it his best work yet. After spending the better half of 2014 and 2015 recording new material for The Libertines and playing a massive European tour, Peter went back to the studio to record this new gem. Hamburg Demonstrations is the latest in a long line of Doherty’s songwriting adventures and if you can’t wait to hear it all live make sure you grab those last few tickets to his London show here.

The Rolling Stones – Blue and Lonesome

Finally there’s a new Stones album! Eleven years after A Bigger Bang, the Brits are back with a brand new studio album featuring covers of their favourite electric blues artists including Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, Eddie Taylo and more. The record is rumoured to have been produced in just three days last December. Get your hands on their new album via our shop.

The Hamilton Mixtape

It’s the musical that has taken Broadway by storm and we finally get our piece of the pie, even if it’s just the shape of a mixtape, we’ll take it. The album consists of Hamilton’s showtunes reinterpreted by pop and rap stars including Kelly Clarkson, Nas, Jimmy Fallon, Usher, John Legend and more. This loving tribute to the show’s composer Lin-Manuel Miranda has us anticipating the musical coming to our shores even more. For now, you can get your copy of the mixtape here.

Beans On Toast – A Spanner In The Works

Xtra Mile Recordings just released Beans On Toast’s new album A Spanner In The Works. His eighth studio album sounds a little different, as the title suggests, but with the trademark three-chord folk songs at the core. As the singer is in the middle of his annual Winter UK tour, you can still book the last remaining tickets for his show at Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth on 7 December via Ticketmaster.co.uk.

Trivium – Ember to Inferno:Ab Initio

trivium

Florida metallers Trivium have re-released the album that started it all and has been out of print for many years. The deluxe edition even has 13 additional tracks not previously released. The band are returning to the UK early next year with a list of dates and they’ll sure be playing a few tracks from this record. Get yourself in the mood for their upcoming tour with a copy of the new record. Tickets for Trivium are available on Ticketmaster.co.uk.

sixx-am

Just a few weeks ago, super group Sixx:AM released the companion record to Prayers For The Damned which came out earlier this year. Prayers For The Blessed Vol. 2 was recorded at the same time as Vol. 1. The band, featuring Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx, guitarist DJ Ashba and vocalist James Michael, says: “We really found ourselves onstage and it’s influencing the way we write.”
