Tour Bus Playlist: Marianas Trench pick their faves
The Canadian four-piece arrive on UK shores in November 2019.
Celebrating the release of their fifth studio album, Phantoms, Canadian pop-rockers Marianas Trench are set to return to the UK for a run of headline shows in November 2019.
The shows kick off in Newcastle on 6 November 2019, taking in Manchester, Bath, Birmingham, Sheffield, Glasgow and Brighton, and including a headline performance at London’s Scala on 14 November.
The band most recently unveiled the video for Don’t Miss Me, taken from their latest album released back in March of this year. The record also features singles I Knew You When and Glimmer, all of which focus on the ongoing impact of former love.
Ahead of their UK run, Marianas Trench offer an insight into the sounds that accompany life on the road.
“There are many different mindsets you need to be in when you’re on tour,” they say. “The energy level two hours before the show is not the same as it is three minutes before stepping on stage. And similarly, the music that suits the vibe after the show or on a day off are also quite different.”
“Here are some of the key songs that help us get into the right zone at the right time for rocking!”
Rage Against The Machine – Killing In The Name
“It’s two hours before the set. Time to begin to get the blood flowing and the body warmed up. Bust out the power blocks and start getting sweaty. A great song to kick off this part of the day for Matt, Ian and Mike is Killing In The Name by Rage Against the Machine.”
Oasis – Go Let It Out & Oasis – Layla
“Meanwhile, Josh starts his workout with a brutal ab wheel session. If you haven’t tried one of these before….don’t! This thing will either give you rippling abs of granite or a broken back. But, should you choose the road less taken then try your best to make it through one, or for the really bold, both of these songs without stopping like Josh.”
ACDC – Highway To Hell
“This is it! The moment you and the crowd have been waiting for. You’re on stage in three minutes. No turning back now. What song on earth is going to get you to the show zone? For us it’s ACDC’s Highway To Hell. We stand backstage and get our instruments on, get our in-ears in place and jam for the last couple of minutes before we hit the stage.”
The Midnight – Lost Boy
“The show is over. You’ve rocked a packed and sweaty show for the last 90 minutes. First things first, warm down your voice, get out of those wet, tight, far too fitted clothes and then get yer ass onto the bus to unwind. The bus is the sanctuary. This is the closest thing you’ve got to home for many months throughout the year. So, to help make it feel like a place you can really relax you need to listen to something… well, relaxing. This past tour we discovered a band called The Midnight. It’s a great change of pace from the concert and definitely made some appearances on the bus after the show.”
Backstreet Boys – Everybody & Britney Spears – …Baby One More Time
“When you’re on tour you play a show every Friday. In fact, you play a show every Friday and Saturday…. and Sunday. BUT THERE IS NO SHOW ON MONDAY…. and we call that Roadie Friday. After a couple of weeks on the road, this becomes quite an important day. Our crew bust their f**king asses to build and take down our show every day and we do our best every night to make them proud of their work. When the hard work is done and there is no show to sing/play/build tomorrow we sometimes let our hair down a little bit more than usual. These are the nights we bust out our bus jams. Usually we like to stick to some ’90s dance song classics and turn that tiny bus into a rolling party. Here are some of our favourites.”
“Now you have all the information you need to have to live your very own Marianas Trench Roadie Friday!”
