Liverpool Sound City announce anniversary headliners

Moving to Clarence Dock, Liverpool Sound City have announced four headliners for 2017.

The Human League, John Cale presents The Velvet Underground 50th Anniversary, Metronomy and The Kooks will headline the four-day event, running from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 May 2017.

Human League will headline the opening day, joined by Art of Noise and A Certain Ratio. “We’re absolutely delighted to be headlining the first night of Sound City’s 10th birthday celebrations,” says the band’s Phil Oakey.

“We love playing for the people of Liverpool, they are properly passionate music fans and we’ve always felt at home in their beautiful city and although we haven’t been there yet from what we’ve heard the setting of Sound City’s iconic industrial landscape is pretty unique and will be a perfect backdrop for our music, we can’t wait to play there.”

John Cale then takes headline duties on Friday 25 May, offering the only UK performance of the highly influential The Velvet Underground & Nico album. Having sold out in minutes when initially announced, organisers have confirmed extra tickets for the event.

Metronomy will headline Saturday 27 May, joined by The Kills, Slaves, Peaches, alt rock prodigies The Hunna, Libertines front man Carl Barat & The Jackals, Pumarosa and Fickle Friends, with more to be announced.

The Kooks will close Liverpool Sound City, Local Natives, !!! (Chk Chk Chk), newly reformed Milburn, She Drew The Gun, hotly tipped Cabbage, The Sherlocks, and The Vryll Society. There’s more to be confirmed here too.

“For our big tenth birthday we wanted to do something really special, not just to mark to occasion but also to reward all those loyal Sound Citizens who have come with us on every step of this amazing ten-year journey,” says Sound City CEO Dave Pichilingi.

“The term legend is way over-used these days but we really do have bona fide music legends on the bill every single day of the festival and we still have lots more to announce. It’s going to be a rollercoaster ride folks. Get yourself strapped in.”

Tickets are on sale from 9:00 on Friday 27 January 2017 through Ticketmaster.co.uk.
