Iron Maiden and Metallica to co-headline Sonisphere 2014

Metal legends Iron Maiden and Metallica will co-headline Sonisphere Festival 2014, which returns to the grounds of Knebworth House.

It’s the first time the two bands have played on the same bill in Britain, and it will be their only UK shows in 2014.

At the festival, Iron Maiden will bring their ‘Maiden England’ World Tour to a close, while Metallica will perform ‘Metallica By Request’ – an interactive setlist spanning their entire career.

“This just works on all fronts,” said Metallica front-man Lars Ulrich.

“To be invited to co-headline the 40th anniversary celebration at the legendary Knebworth House is truly a mindfuck. Considering the iconic bands whose performances at Knebworth are part of rock and roll history, it’s not only a next level honour, but a somewhat humbling undertaking.”

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson added: “Without being clichéd, it really is an honour and privilege to return to play there with the purpose of celebrating some of the finest moments in British rock history from inspirational bands like Pink Floyd, The Who, Zeppelin, The Stones and Genesis.

“This will be the last concert of our ‘Maiden England’ Tour and it is very fitting to end a long and hugely enjoyable tour in our own back yard.”

The festival will celebrate 40 years of rock concerts at Knebworth and marks the return of Sonisphere to Britain – it was last held in the UK in 2011 and for the past five years has been the biggest pan-European festival, playing to audiences of over 1.5 Million fans.

Sonisphere 2014 takes place 4-6 July 2014 in the grounds of Knebworth House, and Early Bird Weekend tickets are on sale now, priced at £170.
