The sun is shining and we’re heading rapidly towards another classically British bank holiday weekend, as young and old across the UK enjoy the chance of an extra day’s holiday on Monday 26 August 2019.
Whether you have one, two or three days (or even more) free around the August bank holiday weekend, we’ve pulled together some of the biggest and best outdoor events and attractions across the United Kingdom to make the unofficial end of the summer even more memorable.
South West Four Festival
When: 24 – 25 August 2019
Where: Clapham Common, London
SW4 returns to London’s Clapham Common for two days of electronic artists, hip-hop, rap and grime. This year’s welcomes main stage appearances by Martin Garrix (Saturday) and Pendulum: Trinity (Sunday), as well as the likes of Craig David presents TS5, Chase & Status, Sigala and Wiley. With five stages on each day hosting an intoxicating blend of international superstars and homegrown upstarts, South West Four promises another euphoric weekend come the August bank holiday.
Leeds Festival
When: 23 – 25 August 2019
Where: Bramham Park, Leeds
With Reading Festival now completely sold out, those looking to enjoy headline appearances by Foo Fighters, The 1975, Post Malone and Twenty One Pilots need look no further than Bramham Park in Leeds. Boasting exclusive appearances, not least in its late night entertainment programme, Leeds Festival continues as one of the nation’s biggest live music events. Be part of the action this August bank holiday.
Rugby: England v Ireland
When: 24 August 2019
Where: Twickenham Stadium, London
Forming part of the Quilter Internationals and acting as a warm-up for the Rugby World Cup 2019, England will take on Ireland at London’s spiritual home of Rugby, Twickenham Stadium, on 24 August 2019. The last time to the two teams faced off, England succeeded 32 – 20, bringing their total wins against the national team to 77 (Ireland have won 49). Witness who will claim the victory this time around on 24 August 2019.
Creamfields
When: 22 – 25 August 2019
Where: Daresbury, Cheshire
One of the UK’s biggest electronic music celebrations, Creamfields returns to Cheshire from 22 – 25 August 2019. This year will see the likes of deadmau5, Martin Garrix, Eric Prydz, Calvin Harris, The Chemical Brothers, Swedish House Mafia, Marco Carola, MK, Hannah Wants and many, many more take to arenas across the huge site. Those looking for an exhilarating electronic fix need look no further come the bank holiday.
Ed Sheeran
When: 24, 25, 26 August 2019
Where: Chantry Park, Suffolk
Global pop sensation Ed Sheeran plays a trio of very special homecoming shows at Chantry Park in Suffolk across the August bank holiday weekend, continuing his record breaking tour in support of 2017’s ÷ (Divide). Expect some of Ed’s biggest hits as he serenades thousands across the three dates, with best availability on Monday 26 August 2019. ZSL London Zoo
When: All weekend
Where: London
Located on the very edge of London’s Regents Park, ZSL London Zoo remains open across the August bank holiday weekend to continue welcoming thousands of visitors from across the globe through the gates. ZSL London Zoo houses a huge range of animals, from squirrel monkeys to penguins, tigers to gorillas, and lions to giraffes, as well as plenty of entertainment for all the family.
The 1975 at Glasgow Summer Sessions
When: 25 August 2019
Where: Ballahouston Park, Glasgow
Not just headlining Reading and Leeds Festival across the bank holiday weekend, The 1975 will continue celebrating the release of last year’s phenomenal A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships and next year’s Notes on a Conditional Form with a headline appearance at Glasgow Summer Session on 25 August 2019. They’ll be joined by Twin Atlantic, You Me At Six, Pale Waves, Ten Tonnes and No Rome for the very special outdoor show.
Big Feastival
When: 23 – 25 August 2019
Where: Alex James’ Farm, The Cotswolds
Taking place on Blur musician, journalist and celebrated cheesemaker Alex James’ farm, Big Feasival brings together food, music, and family entertainment across the three day weekend. The line-up includes world renowned chefs from a broad range of cuisines, including The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith. Music will be provided by Lewis Capaldi, Jess Glynne, Elbow, Jack Savoretti, Rudimental and many more, for a unique mix for foodies and music lovers alike.
Edinburgh Festival Fringe
When: August 2019
Where: Various, Edinburgh
Perhaps not strictly speaking outside, Edinburgh Fringe Festival takes over the Scottish city for all of August with plenty to see and do. As well as the huge line-up of comedians taking to seemingly ever room, corner, or slightly raised platform, the city also becomes ones giant party with pop-up bars, street performers and just all-out entertainment. House of Common
When: 26 August 2019
Where: Clapham Common, London
The Madness curated House of Common returns to London’s Clapham Common on 26 August 2019, headlined by the ska-masters themselves. They’ll be joined on the day by Jimmy Cliff, Ziggy Marley, Horace Andy, Akala, David Rodigan, Craig Charles and more, as the upbeat, family-friendly celebration takes over South London to round off the August bank holiday.
