The Gaslight Anthem announce anniversary shows
The band will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of their landmark album The '59 Sound.
New Jersey punks The Gaslight Anthem are back from their hiatus to pay tribute to their break-through sophomore album The ’59 Sound with a run of dates across Europe including three UK shows in London, Glasgow and Manchester this July.
Earlier this month, Brian Fallon and his band announced the first of the anniversary shows at New York’s Governors Ball festival. The Gaslight Anthem will be playing the album in full for the newly announced dates, so expect to hear fan favourites such as High Lonesome, Here’s Looking At You, Kid and Even Cowgirls Get The Blues.
Released in August 2008, The ’59 Sound marked The Gaslight Anthem’s breakthrough that would take them across the world with their iconic sound mixing the band’s punk roots with classic American rock’n’roll on songs like Old White Lincoln and Great Expectations. The worldwide smash title track proved a modern rock classics, fuelled by heroic hooks, huge choruses, and Brian Fallon’s masterful chronicle of love, loss, and the broken hearted.
Just a year after its release, the album had another huge side effect for The Gaslight Anthem as they were joined on stage by New jersey hometown hero Bruce Springsteen at Glastonbury and Hyde Park, giving them the proverbial seal of approval from The Boss himself.
The ’59 Sound earned the band rave reviews and would be followed up with hit records Handwritten and American Slang as well top 5 charting fifth and final album Get Hurt which was released a year before The Gaslight Anthem’s hiatus.
Here are those Gaslight Anthem UK dates:
20 July 2018 – Hammersmith Apollo, London
24 July 2018 – Barrowlands, Glasgow
25 July 2018 – O2 Apollo, Manchester
