Foo Fighters have announced a huge UK tour: let’s celebrate with 10 epic Foo’s videos
It’s finally happened. After all the rumours and all the rumblings, mighty rockers Foo Fighters have announced a 2015 UK tour and revealed that they’re hoping to share their stage with British band Royal Blood and Iggy Pop.
Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear are heading to Sunderland, Manchester, Edinburgh and Wembley Stadium, where front-man and all round nicest guy in rock Dave Grohl has promised a set-smashing line-up of classic Foo’s material.
“At this point, we have a lot of songs. We have a lot of die-hard fans and we have a lot of new fans – so we like to try and appease everyone. When you play a gig like that, I’m not going to turn my back to the audience and play some kind of challenging B-side shit. I’m going to try and turn around and get 60,000 people to sing along to the chorus like Freddie Mercury at Live Aid. That’s to me, a f**cking stadium show.”
I, like most people, can’t wait for the tour and to see this guy whipping his mop back and forth live on stage (let’s face it, he does have the best barnet in the business) so, to keep everyone going until the shows kick off next year, here’s a top ten selection of our favourite Foo’s videos and tracks.
1. Everlong
A thundering song that with a trippy video that makes you think about what a lovely couple Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins would make in the real world.
2. Times Like These
This is the song you wait for at a Foo’s gig, knees bent, calf muscles clenched and thighs taunt, coiled and ready for that first glorious leap as that now infamous riff kicks in.
3. Best Of You
The pared-back white set, the slow crescendo and Grohl’s face, close-up and snarling into the microphone. What’s not to love?
4. White Limo
Faux old school Foo Fighters with a video featuring Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, roller blades and a rake fight. You can’t listen to this without joining in: “GOOOOOOOOOO LIMOOOOOOOOOOO.”
5. My Hero
An early Foo Fighters song in praise of the ordinary, everyday and unsung heroes in the world.
6. The Pretender
One man against an army. The individual against the masses. Quite simply, a wall of sound. One to wait for in the live gigs.
7. Learn To Fly
One of the happiest guitar-heavy hits in the Foos’ back catalogue. The video, which features a cross-dressing man-girl version of Grohl, is an added bonus.
8. All My Life
This will be the song most crowds wait for. A made for a stadium track that starts with a delicate whisper and ends in a roar with a whale-sized baseline that’s too loud to be contained.
9. Monkey Wrench
While the song might have been about Grohl’s failed marriage to Jennifer Youngblood, this is a surprisingly upbeat rocking anthem based on that one universal truth: no one wants to be a monkey wrench.
10. Something From Nothing
The brand new track from their just released album, Sonic Highways.
“It started with a spark. It burned into the dark. Now here I go.”
