Try defining Die Antwoord to any one genre and you’ll soon find yourself falling off a wobbly tightrope somewhere in the sea of punk-rap-rave-urban-pop-electro.
Since creating a buzz on YouTube back in 2010, the South African duo have maintained their unique ability to surprise, confuse and fascinate gig-goers.
The captivating pair – Ninja and Yolandi – deliver a stage show like few others; dressed in elaborate (and often coordinated) stage costumes, they’re a vision of art, tattoos, animated backdrops and vivid lights.
Their now-acclaimed live show has even afforded them backing dancers and more than one costume change. Impressive.
Die Antwoord hit Manchester’s Albert Hall tonight, before a hotly-tipped gig at London’s O2 Brixton Academy tomorrow. Suddenly all other weekend plans seem not-quite-as-good-as-Die-Antwoord.
