All the highlights from the LA Taylor Hawkins tribute concert
Following on from the touching tribute at Wembley Stadium, an equally star-studded night comes to California’s Kia Forum
Earlier this month, a huge tribute to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins took over Wembley Stadium. The star-studded event looked to be as big as it gets, but this weeks’ follow-up show at Kia Forum went even bigger. The nearly six-hour extravaganza featured a mammoth set-list of 53 songs, a roster of huge names, and stirring performances from Hawkins’ nearest and dearest.
Dave Grohl’s sixteen-year-old daughter Violet opened the show with a cover of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’.
Dave Grohl, Pat Smear and former Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic teamed up with Taylor Momsen and Soundgarden to play a couple of Soundgarden tracks.
Alanis Morissette joined the Foo Fighters to play ‘You Oughta Know’. Hawkins had previously been a member of Morissette’s band before joining the Foos.
Hawkin’s old cover band Chevy Metal recruited Kesha for a cover of ‘Heroes’ by David Bowie.
Foo Fighters and Mötley Crüe united for a couple of songs. The Foos also teamed up with Def Leppard, bringing Miley Cyrus into the fold for ‘Photograph’. The singer revealed that Hawkins once called her to tell her to cover the track. “I’m listening to Photograph by Def Leppard,” his voicemail went. “You could kill that one.” She did.
P!nk appeared for several team-ups, including ‘The Pretender’ with the Foo Fighters and ‘Somebody To Love’ with Queen.
The Foo Fighters also brought on a number of other special guests, including Joan Jett, Dave Chappelle, and Hawkins’ son Shane.
