Review: Kano returns to the manor with Troxy headliner

Having already lined up a string of festival appearances, Kano gets grime fans in the mood for summer with a headline show at London’s Troxy.

Youngsters given the stage

Kano’s homecoming gig surprisingly came fourth on his Made In The Manor tour but unsurprisingly it was held in East London at The Troxy. Supporting the veteran grime MC was a host of up-and-coming artists including DAVE who made this his live debut, admitting to the crowd that he was ‘gassed’ by the experience. Birmingham was also represented by Dapz, Tempa and Swifta Beater but the vibe for the evening was set by Eilijiah and Skilliam who have been on the entire tour with Kano.

Longtime coming

You can tell early on in the evening that this has been a longtime coming for a large part of the crowd and the anticipation is visible with most people arriving for early doors. Kano has been quiet in the grime revival and isn’t as synonymous with the young crowds as much as the likes of Stormzy and Skepta, so most of tonight’s attendees would’ve bought Home Sweet Home when it came out in 2005.

Strictly Made In The Manor

Made In The Manor is the theme of the evening and the crowd are welcoming to the new album but it doesn’t stop KA reminiscing with old grime hits and even bringing longtime friend and collaborator Ghetts out. But it’s the huge encore of P’s & Q’s that the crowd go crazy for.

Wheeel it, wheeel it, wheeel it!

3 Wheel-Ups, a single that came out before his album released, has taken over the grime scene and the title of the song meant it had to be a banger. So everyone knew this would be the standout song of the evening before it was even played and it didn’t disappoint with, you guessed, it three reloads aka ‘wheel-ups’ on the song. The third saw Giggs appear to deliver his verse and again, you guessed it, that appearance was reloaded.

No excuses not to see KA

Kano is set to appear at a few festivals including Wildlife, Parklife, Lovebox and Sundown this summer so if you don’t have tickets to the rest of his tour we urge you to watch him because he might just be one of the best in the grime scene and he won’t disappoint.
