Here’s how Lonely The Brave are preparing to own 2015
You wouldn’t be blamed for thinking Lonely The Brave have more than one album to their name (they don’t).
The Cambridge five-piece practically stole the hearts of rock fans in 2014, with the release of their debut record, The Day’s War, topping Top 10 lists, countless plays on Radio 1 and spots at some of the biggest UK festivals.
Now they’re gearing up for a 2015 headline tour that promises to gain them even more attention. A big chunk of the 16-date run is already sold out, which is hardly surprising given the captivating live show this lot have made their name for.
Fans will be familiar with frontman David Jakes’ shy and understated demeanour, standing towards the rear of the stage when he performs, but as the band’s confidence has grown in the last 12 months or so, this singer’s dominating stage presence has shot up with it.
So if you thought you knew everything there was to know about Lonely The Brave, think again.
“We will give you everything we have, every single time we play,” says guitarist Mark Trotter. “We don’t know how to do it any other way.”
“It’s our largest ever UK headline tour and we are all buzzing about it,” he adds. “Then we head to mainland Europe for another month or so, and then it’s festivals for the rest of the summer.
“We have also been locked away writing for our second record which we hope to record towards the end of the year. No rest – just the way we like it!”
Having bagged themselves a main stage spot at Reading and Leeds Festival this August, we’re going to go ahead and assume this will be a festival season like no other for the band.
“What an honour!” Mark admits. “We have been incredibly privileged to have been asked back for a third year in a row. The first year we played the BBC introducing stage, last year we played the Radio 1 / NME stage and this year, the Main Stage!
“Reading and Leeds is a special one for us as a band as it’s the festival that we have been to as fans more than any other. Honestly if we were not playing, we would all be there as paying punters anyway.”
As for the band’s biggest pinch-yourself moment so far, Mark says: “There have been so many over the last couple of years. Opening up for Deftones and Neil Young, playing Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, and Download amongst lots of other festivals. Touring all over Europe, it’s been pretty bonkers!
“For me, it still has to be the moment our management called and asked, ‘How would you be interested in opening up for Bruce Springsteen? Honestly I thought they were joking. Fast forward a few weeks and that was exactly what was happening – that’s always going to be a special moment.”
Expect a lot more of where that came from, boys!
