The SSE Hydro in Glasgow makes headlines the world over

The SSE Hydro has been named the world’s second busiest live entertainment venue according to new industry results.

Glasgow’s much-loved venue bagged the impressive ranking in The 100 Worldwide Arena Venues list, which is compiled quarterly by the leading entertainment industry publication Pollstar.

Topped only by The O2 in London, Scotland’s hub has been busy creating a big buzz on the entertainment scene since it first opened on 30 September 2013.

The respected poll ranks venues on the popularity of their events, basing its results on arena attendance for concerts and special events.

Peter Duthie, Chief Executive of The SSE Hydro and SECC said: “It has been an incredible journey for The SSE Hydro. To be positioned as the second busiest arena globally just fifteen months after opening is absolutely outstanding.

“We wouldn’t have received this accolade without the support of the artists, their promoters, our staff and of course the 1,045,344 fans that visited us last year.”

The SSE Hydro shows no signs of slowing down in 2015, either. With over 90 performances already confirmed for the year ahead, the venue will host Queen and Adam Lambert, Slipknot, Strictly Come Dancing, McBusted, Usher and more in the coming months.
